The Middle East “is in turmoil” following atacks between Iran and Israel, the BBC’s international editor, Jeremy Bowen, has said.

Both countries have attacked each other’s territory for the first time since the April ceasefire, prompting a call by US President Donald Trump for both countries to stop “shooting”.

Israel carried out air strikes in western and central Iran, after Iran fired missiles at northern Israel.
